Do I need Ear Wax Removal?
Often, ear wax is the only reason someone is suffering from hearing loss. Normally, ear wax naturally moves from the inside of the ear to the outer ear and is washed away without us knowing.
Excessive ear wax can build up without us knowing at first. The ears may then feel ‘full’ and the sounds around are dull. It can cause discomfort and tinnitus.
Never try to remove the earwax yourself with cotton buds, it will just push the ear wax further into the ear and make matters worse.
We can help by removing the ear wax easily and gently using a choice of methods usually without the need for prolonged treatment with olive oil.
Do I need to do anything before my appointment?
In advance of your appointment we recommend you have your ears checked to be sure there is ear wax present. We can do this for you at a simple FREE 5 min earwax check appointment. If you have ear wax present we recommend using olive oil for just 48hrs before the procedure. There is no need to ‘flood’ the ears for weeks. Our ENT grade equipment allows us to manage the problem with ease
What happens at the appointment?
We will use the right removal method to match the consistency and position of ear wax in the canal leaving your ears squeaky clean!
- We will take a brief medical and ear health history
- Explain the ear wax removal procedure clearly
- Thoroughly examine your ears
- Our clinical team are HCPC registered, fully insured and professionally trained in all aspects of ear wax removal including;
- Microsuction. This is the preferred method of ear wax removal where we use a small vacuum to gently remove the ear wax from the ear canal without the need for syringing. We use a high powered ENT microscope to look into your ears as we remove any obstruction providing the highest standard of care possible, although we may use other methods if required
- Syringing or irrigation
This is a more traditional method using water at body temperature that is gently ‘pulsed’ into the canal to remove the ear wax. - Instrumentation
Here we use a variety of fine, specially designed tools to safely remove the ear wax. We are able to see the ear canal through the microscope as we go
- Take pictures both before and after the procedure so that you can see for yourself what a great job we’ve done!
- Perform a simple hearing check. We may ask you to come back for a more thorough hearing assessment if there is a hearing loss.
